The Cider House Rules

Just realized… another Michael Caine movie! This is a wonderful book and a great film.  It’s not often you see that.  This one is about an orphan who is trained to be a doctor leaving home to explore what the world has to offer.  Aside from Michael Caine… Tobey Maguire, Charlize Theron, Paul Rudd, Erkykah Badu.. and it keeps going.  This cast is amazing.

October Sky

A movie about a boy in a small coal mining city dreams big and begins to build rockets.  Everyone loves this one…

I met Adam through the local Phoenix music scene and was immediately drawn in by how friendly and supportive he was… plus he was rockin a Detroit Tigers hat! I can best describe him as relentlessly optimistic. In the year that I’ve known him, I realized that he is driven by passion and those are the kind of people I love to have in my circle. Adam has been a One Lyfe supporter since the beginning so I asked him to share his passion for longboarding with the OL community and this is what he gave me…

I first heard about longboarding in 2009 when I moved to Arizona. Seeing thousands of kids on ASU campus pushing around all on their way to class made me realize how possible riding a skateboard could be. So I gave it a shot and started riding to get around from point A to B.

After a year of sidewalk surfing, a buddy of mine turned me onto some YouTube videos that had sponsored longboarders doing tricks in them on all kinds of different boards. And that was what got me hooked on the scene: by watching produced, almost movie quality videos of steezy street surfing with an online archive to keep anyone interested entertained for hours on end. I dreamt of being one of the riders in those videos and how cool it would be to contribute to the rapidly growing scene.

10 Boards, 100+ wheels, and countless pieces of gear, clothes, and skin later I find myself doing what I hoped I would be doing. I skate as much as possible, and love every single day that I’m able to do so. I don’t know what I would be doing if I wasn’t longboarding, it’s pretty much my everything. It’s my workout, it’s my fun, it teaches me many things about life and about how to deal with things life fear, anger, frustration, anxiety, and most of all, pain.

Let’s just say that I’ve had my fair share of crashes, and all longboarders do. It’s kind of the learning curve in a way. You fall, it hurts, and you don’t want to fall again (pretty simple right?). Right, except you will probably remember falling, the pain in particular. What follows isn’t simply the QB brushing off his shoulders after a bad pass and getting over it, this could possibly be your life on the line. So next time, just wear protection, know your limits and keep a clear head… And don’t forget to have fun!!
